What Sets Apart the Great Managers from Others

Great managers have the ability to change the game. They are the ones who can turn an unlikely office situation around. Contrary to what employees used to believe, great managers are not the same. They have their own unique ways in handling their subordinates.  They are fully aware that not all individuals have the same way and manner in approaching issues and problems regarding their work; thus what they do is assess everyone and help them to be better. They provide training, coaching, and other events and activities that will help the employees improve their skills and manage their differences.

One thing that great managers do is they select the best person for the job. They do not simply depend on the amount of experience an individual has; rather, they seek for persons with the talent needed. These talents are divided into three categories: striving, thinking, and relating. Striving is the drive and desire to achieve things and put his potential into action. Thinking is often related to a person’s personality and focus. Discipline, on the other hand, is their ability to work with other team members smoothly. This means that he is empathic toward others and has the ability to be sensitive to individual differences. Aside from talent, great managers find the best applicants by conducting background checks. With the help of background check companies, managers know more than what they usually see in an applicant. They see his records and what kind of person he is before. By knowing this, it will help him in his decision-making to find the best applicant.

Why Tenant Screening is Important

If you are a realtor, a property manager, or a landlord, one of the most essential things that you should bear in mind is the importance of tenant screening. If you assess a tenant without further investigation, it might lead to loss due to property damage, unpaid rental and court costs linked with eviction. This is why it is a must do step before accepting tenants. By using tenant screening services, you will be able to know a person’s identity, credit, criminal, eviction, bankruptcy, liens and judgments, and others. By knowing these things, it will help you in your decision in finding high quality renters.

One importance of tenant screening is the verification of information that your tenants supplied. This will help you realize if your tenant is trustworthy or not. If the tenant screening results doesn’t match with the rental application, then clearly, your possible tenant is lying or hiding something from you.

Another advantage is that you lower the possible risks that your tenant may incur in the future. By knowing a tenant’s past record and behavior, you can conclude and visualize his future actions. What you know in an applicant’s history will help you discover noticeable issues. Other than that, tenant screening reports will help you know if the applicant can afford your unit and if he can pay on time. It will also decrease the possibility of managing evictions and other unknown issues in the future.

Why HRs Should Look Beyond the Resume

HR personnel are the gateway between an applicant and the company. They are responsible for one of the toughest decisions to make. By letting an individual work inside their facility, they are giving them the trust that they will act as they expected and work as they should. They will give them the power to handle confidential information, as well as the company’s secrets of its success. One thing about how the HR searches for the right employee for the job is sifting through application letters and resumes. However, should the next level or stage rely solely on the resume contents? Below are reasons on why HR’s should look beyond the resumes.

  • ·         A resume doesn’t tell everything- One thing you have to consider is the reality that some people are not honest. If lying will get them the job, they are mostly to lie about it, like all the skills that they say they have. You cannot test their skills by just trusting that a piece of paper is telling you the truth.

  • ·        Ask References- One of the best things to know about a person is to ask their previous employee or professional references about them. If there is something wrong or something that cannot be explained well by your applicant, then maybe his references may give some clarity to it.

Tips to Reduce Workplace Negativity

There is nothing that affects how employees work and perform more than the negativity that clouds the workplace. It diminishes a worker’s morale and diverts the attention and energy of everyone in the workplace that should have been spent on their work. Negativity is an attitude or an outlook of one or more members of the team.

The first step is learning about the negativity residing in your company. As an HR, it is one of your job to keep in touch with each member of the company and know various unpleasant situations that arise among them.  You can also see the warning signs if you pay attention closely. You receive more complaints from employees, exit interviews with those who leave, and you hear that your workplace reputation isn’t that satisfying. Don’t ignore these situations, these are those warning signs.

The next thing to do is to diagnose the workplace negativity. This includes talking with the workers about it. By communicating with them, you will be able to understand the specific problems and know the core issues that causes the negative ambiance. You should also determine which employees experience the negativity and the reasons that caused the unhappiness. Maybe they feel that they are entitled to get more than they receive, maybe the company’s decisions affected the staff, or his manager and other team members have made him feel that way. Whatever the main issues are, you must address them immediately.

One way to reduce this to have an open communication to the employees. Be open to their comments and suggestions, even if some seem unimportant or seem silly. The moment that they know you take their words and problems seriously is one thing to gain their trust. When you have their trust, they will tell you everything you need to know without the any communication barrier. You will see their perspective and this will help you understand their situation.

What do Companies Should Avoid at all Costs

Imagine a scenario where you are the CEO of a company. You have a lot of employees working as a team on different divisions, all working harmoniously. Then, out of nowhere, fights, arguments, and all kinds of conflicts arise out of nowhere. What do you do?

First and foremost, we should take a look at the possible reasons why the scenario mentioned above happened. There are a lot of factors that could have caused the incidents to happen. But, to keep things simple, let us cite four reasons why. Here are the reasons why the scenario could have possibly happened and why companies should avoid them at all costs:

·         Miscommunication – in every organization or relationship, whether it is parent to child, mother to father, mother to children, your girlfriend or boyfriend, your workmates, classmates, friends, or any random person, we should always communicate properly to avoid conflicts. Conflicts arise simply because both parties fail to communicate properly. If both express their thoughts and feelings in a non-intrusive and calm way, surely there will be a peaceful consensus, thus avoiding conflict.

·    Stress – when we talk about stress, it covers a lot of terms and meanings that it differs from person to person. People may perceive something as stressful, while others may not. We all have our own stressors that are unique to us. That is the reason why we should do our best to avoid being the stressor to anyone, because disrupting the peace and concentration of an employee is a bad move.

Why Background Checks are Important

Background check is an integral part of the hiring and sifting process during job vacancies. By conducting a background check, the HR department, or the interviewer has an idea of who the person is, who the applicant is, what he is, what he does, all in just a short amount of time.  This knowledge will help the interviewer decide where the applicant is beneficial to the company or not.

It is important to conduct a background check because it is difficult to hire a person who is completely unknown to the interviewer. There have been incidents of companies hiring the wrong people into the company. Worse, some companies hire dangerous people solely because no proper background check was conducted before accepting the applicant.

There are also cases where skilled people were hired, and yet was not a perfect fit for the company, solely because of the attitude of the employee, therefore causing harm to the overall success of the company. If the interviewer at that time conducted a background check, they could have avoided hiring the wrong person for the job.

In some cases where the applicant is convincing enough to be accepted, but no background check was conducted upon the person, the company suffered major consequences because they hired a person whose sole purpose is to destroy the company. Some applicants do not completely reveal themselves during interviews, but rather, unveil their true intentions when they are already inside the company, wreaking havoc and chaos among employees.

The Role of HR when it Comes to Handling Employee Relationship

A company’s success lies within the relationship of his employees. An organization won’t work when the people who should bring success to the company does not work harmoniously with each other. It will never progress and reach its triumph when the members of a team do not trust or believe in each other’s skills and abilities. However, in order for them to have trust with each other, they must get along well and be comfortable in working with one another.

It is the responsibility of a human resource professional to bind employees together. By this we mean helping them cooperate with each other smoothly and not forcibly. It is always the HR’s task to help them work amicably on every project that requires teamwork. In line with that, it is fitting to say that HR professionals should conduct events and activities that will help the employees increase their productivity, and at the same time help them to get along with each other.  Some people are always used to working alone that they do not usually interact with their coworkers and teammates in more than a casual kind of way. It is the HR’s duty to bridge the awkward gap between two or more people who work together. It is his job to help teams work smoothly towards their goal. Other than conducting events and activities, these could be also be addressed by having them eat together for lunch or celebrate a successful project as a group.
